Member, Islamic Ideological Council of Pakistan
At the sacred Urs ceremony of Khawaja Hazrat Shah Muhammad Ruknuddin Alwari (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ) and Hazrat Shah Mufti Muhammad Mahmood Alwari (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ) in Mahmoodabad, Kasur, Dr. Sahibzada Uzair Mahmood Al-Azhari addressed his followers and attendees on a thought-provoking topic: “Half Truth and Half Falsehood in Our Society.”
He highlighted a deeply dangerous disease that has infiltrated almost every sector, every group, and every individual in our society—the tendency to mix truth with lies in order to achieve personal goals.
Qur’anic Guidance: Truth Should Not Be Mixed with Falsehood
Drawing from the Qur’an, Dr. Uzair recited the verse:
“And do not mix the truth with falsehood, and do not conceal the truth while you know [it].” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:42)
He explained that this very illness had once spread among the Jews. When they were told that the Final Messenger, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, had been sent—about whom Prophet Musa (عليه السلام), Prophet Isa (عليه السلام), and other prophets had foretold—they admitted, “Yes, Muhammad has been sent.” Yet they added deceitfully, “But not to us; rather, to others, for we are superior.”

Thus, while acknowledging the truth with their tongues, they corrupted it with falsehood in their hearts and words.
A Contemporary Example: The Trap of Interest-Based Loans
Dr. Uzair then shared a modern-day example from the deliberations of the Islamic Ideological Council. At first glance, government loans appear to be a blessing. However, when examined carefully, it becomes clear that such loans are offered not freely, but with interest (Riba)—a practice explicitly condemned in Islam.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“A single dirham of usury which a man knowingly consumes is more severe than committing adultery thirty-six times.” (Musnad Ahmad)
Allah first warned against interest gently:
“And give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you are believers.” (Al-Baqarah 2:278)

But when people ignored the warning, He declared war:
“If you do not, then be informed of a war against you from Allah and His Messenger.” (Al-Baqarah 2:279)
This, Dr. Uzair stressed, shows how mixing truth with falsehood leads society into destruction—whether in religion, politics, or economics.
The Way Out: Fear Allah, Gain True Discernment
In conclusion, Dr. Uzair offered a solution from the Qur’an:
“O you who believe! If you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion (Furqan)—the ability to distinguish between right and wrong.” (Al-Anfal 8:29)
He emphasized that Taqwa (God-consciousness) is the key that grants individuals and societies the spiritual insight to separate truth from lies.
To illustrate this point, he narrated an inspiring incident from the life of Hazrat Shah Mufti Muhammad Mahmood Alwari (رحمہ اللہ), reminding the audience that the saints of Allah always lived with integrity, never mixing truth with falsehood.
✅ Key Message:
Half-truths may sound convincing, but they are, in reality, full lies. A society that builds itself upon half-truths will eventually collapse. Only by holding firmly to the truth, as guided by the Qur’an and Sunnah, can we secure our moral, social, and spiritual future.
