The Importance of Education and Training in Society
Knowledge is the backbone of any society — but when knowledge is not accompanied by training and moral development, its benefits rarely reach society in a meaningful way. Knowledge is light, but training teaches us how to use that light wisely. When a person gains knowledge but does not shape their character through it, that knowledge can sometimes become a cause of imbalance and disorder in society. This is why our elders and great scholars have always emphasised that education and training must go hand in hand.
A Thoughtful Gathering at Ruknul Islam Jamia Mujaddidia, Karachi
With this vision in mind, a special training session was recently held at Ruknul Islam Jamia Mujaddidia, Karachi, led by its Principal, Dr. Sahibzada Uzair Mahmood Al-Azhari. Addressing the teachers and students, Dr. Uzair highlighted the crucial question of which system of education we need to adopt today and how we can ensure that knowledge is always linked with proper training — to help build an exemplary society.
About Dr. Uzair Mahmood Al-Azhari
Dr. Uzair Mahmood Al-Azhari is a distinguished Islamic scholar renowned for his tireless efforts in promoting education, peace, and unity. He serves as a Member of the Council of Islamic Ideology, Pakistan, President of The World Association for Al-Azhar Graduates, Pakistan, and Director of the Ruknul Islam Educational Society, among other important roles.
Coming from a family celebrated for its deep scholarly and spiritual roots, Dr. Uzair’s guidance blends classical knowledge with modern-day realities. He has dedicated his life to nurturing students’ character, spreading authentic Islamic teachings, and advocating for global peace through meaningful education.
What Kind of Education Do We Need Today?
During the session, Dr. Uzair emphasised that we need a holistic educational system that combines both religious and modern knowledge. Such a system should not only produce academically successful students but also shape them into morally upright and socially responsible individuals — people who can bring positive change to their families, communities, and society at large.
Why Is Training So Important?
He stressed that if a teacher is not personally trained in moral and spiritual values, they may help students pass exams — but they cannot shape their character. For this reason, teachers must continually refine themselves through training so they can serve as living role models for their students, embodying the values they wish to pass on.
Conclusion
This training session reminded everyone that our goal is not just to collect degrees — but to become conscious, ethical, and constructive members of society, true beacons of light for those around us. Knowledge is truly useful only when it refines our character, and character is truly valuable when it brings positive change to the world.
May Allah accept the tireless efforts of Dr. Uzair Mahmood Al-Azhari and grant us all the ability to embrace an education that nurtures our minds and hearts together. Ameen.
